Rocklahoma 2022: Rewind – Day 1

For many, Rocklahoma Music Festival is an annual concert held in the sleepy town of Pryor, Oklahoma. In a town of an estimated 9,417 residents, to others, it’s a family reunion. Until last year, Pryor would see an annual surge of an estimated 60,000 – 70,000 people the last weekend of May, for the yearly rock festival. After a global pandemic forced it’s 2020 year canceled and the following year delayed from Memorial Day to Labor Day, a new decade dawned. This year was the second year in the Labor Day calendar spot, and for the second year, we avoided the tornados that plagued us for years during the earlier holiday. This year, for the second year, we had a festival without thunderstorms. However, we did have a surprise downpour that reminded us that Oklahoma weather still does what it wants, when it wants.

Now wielding some creds and my new photographer, #PhotographyByAngelLee, we set forth to catch as much of the magic as we could. Here is a taste…

Thursday night party as the rain came through, to give us a pre-festival shower and a little bit of mud to kick off our weekend, it did little to curb the unrelenting spirit of rock and roll as it’s not a Rocklahoma without a monsoon. This did help with the dust on the gravel areas and we had a mild breeze all weekend.

Thankfully, our friends at At Your Service Rentals, have the tools and pools to keep us cool

You have not seen excitement until you’ve seen the festival entrance minutes before the signal.

With the gates open, and the freaks on the loose, the crowds amassed and were ready for day one.

With names like Jelly Roll, Three Days Grace, and the iconic Shinedown rounding out the lineup, Rocklahoma shattered all expectations. The latter, Shinedown, demonstrated exactly why they hold the record for the most #1 singles on the Billboard Chart’s 40yr history. And their performance makes all of their accolades undeniable. Jelly Roll cemented his place in the hearts of all his established fans and expanded his fanbase in our festival exponentially.

And let’s not forget some gratuitous shots of the real heart and soul of Rocklahoma. The Rocklahomies!!
