Review: New singles from Ryder

The New York band with southern soul and Rocklahoma alumns, Ryder, is set to drop their new singles “Hard Time” and “Crash and Burn”. The first is a new track from their up and coming album “Killer Karma” that each feel very different. “Crash and Burn (Acoustic)” is the “B-side” of “Hard Time” and won’t be on the “Killer Karma” album. If they are any indication of the upcoming album mentioned, you’ll soon be loading up in the truck with your crew and hitting the back roads or highway to get into some trouble.

โ€œHard Timeโ€

As I first hit play on the first of two tracks sent to me, the first feeling I got is that bluesy funk that I know and love that comes from good olโ€™ Southern Rock. If you like Johnny Cash, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the like, youโ€™re going to love this first track, โ€œHard Timeโ€. Thereโ€™s a bit of a rhythmic funk to it thatโ€™s sure to get those ladies in the tight ripped jeans or “Daisy Dukes” swinging their hips and those head banging beer drinking S.O.B.โ€™s channeling Rick Flair with their โ€œwooโ€™sโ€ and would make Steve Austin give a โ€œHell Yeah!โ€.  The song is full of attitude and telling a story of the inevitable stop for any outlaw. A sort of modern-day Folsom Prison Blues with a few stinging guitar riffs thrown in for good measure. Careful with the volume on this one in your boys and girls, if youโ€™re in your car or truck, youโ€™re sure to develop a lead foot if you get carried away.

โ€œCrash and Burn (Acoustic)โ€

This next track is deliciously different and a little bit slower while still stirring that rebel soul. It begins with an ominous bass intro into a faster tempo bluesy sort of rhythm thatโ€™s perfect for those back-road excursions. Nothing goes with those off the beaten path adventures like a raw feel to your tunes, which this song has. Accompanied with some back up vocals, thatโ€™s not quite in perfect harmony in a great way, that makes me want to sing along, after having a few whiskeyโ€™s and a cold beer in my hand. If youโ€™re in your vehicle at this point, youโ€™re sure to be hosting a rousing โ€œCar Karaokeโ€.

My Take:

Load up with your boys and jam out to these tracks when they drop ahead of the release of โ€œKiller Karmaโ€ coming this summer.

About the album:

โ€œKiller Karmaโ€ was produced in the Obscenic Arts Studios in Dillsburg, PA and produced and engineered by a man thatโ€™s worked with the great Ace Frehly as well as other known acts like Jake E. Lee’s Red Dragon Cartel. and Oklahoma favoriteโ€™s Lynch Mob, Anthony Esposito.

My pick of the two tracks, โ€œHard Timeโ€ will be premiered exclusively on โ€œSurviving Rocklahoma Liveโ€ March 29th at 9pm on Facebook. (www.survivingrocklahoma.com/survivingrocklahoma).
